EMDR therapy is a specialised approach that requires supervised training for full therapeutic effectiveness and client safety. EMDR Institute Basic Training consists of lectures, live, and video demonstrations, and supervised practice. Prior to finalising your registration, please take the time to review the information about our EMDR Basic Training which includes training requirements for attendance, participation and post-training consultation.
EMDR Training Eligibility
The EMDR Association of Australia has established specific eligibility criteria for healthcare practitioners seeking to enrol in an Accredited EMDR Basic Training Program. Please confirm you meet the criteria as per EMDRAA’s website before registering for EMDR Basic Training. If there is any doubt about your eligibility, please contact EMDRAA directly to confirm your status prior to registering for training.

Prerequisites for Weekend 1 Training

Required reading: Participants are required to engage with "EMDR: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures" by Shapiro (2018). It is recommended that Participants read the first 8 Chapters to grasp essential EMDR therapy concepts and techniques prior to attending Weekend 1 Training.

Online videos and journal articles: Participants will be sent an email containing 3 journal articles and links to 3 videos to review prior prior to attending Weekend 1 Training.
Prerequisites for Weekend 2 Training

To be admitted to Weekend 2 of the EMDR Basic Training, documentation showing completion of 5 consultation hours with an EMDR Institute Facilitator is required.
